Mover

OpenAI dots vs Mover OS: what's actually different?

Updated .

OpenAI's dots is an always-on agent with its own cloud computer, bundled into ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium, that can browse, use apps, and work on tasks while you're away. Mover OS is a $49 one-time file system that lives inside the Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI session you already open, and tracks your plan so the AI you're talking to remembers it and pushes back when you drift. They aren't really the same category of thing: dots acts on your behalf while you're gone, Mover keeps you honest while you're there.

Price and plansNo separate price. Included at no extra cost with ChatGPT Pro (Pro 100 at $100 a month, Pro 200 at $200 and Pro 500) and Business Premium. Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare get an opt-in beta a workspace admin enables. The Plus plan does not get it. source$49 once for the first 20 buyers, then $79. Tax included. 30-day money-back guarantee. All v4 updates included. Not a subscription. source
AvailabilityPro users in markets outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK; Business Premium in all supported ChatGPT regions, which includes the UK (OpenAI's dots docs: "Business Premium: Rolling out worldwide"); Enterprise as a beta a workspace admin switches on. Texting a dot is a beta limited to Pro users in the US. sourceRuns wherever the user's own Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI subscription already runs; Mac, Windows and Linux. source
PlatformsChatGPT desktop, web and mobile; Slack and Teams; texting "coming soon". Initial setup needs the desktop app or a desktop browser; mobile is for messaging your dot only after setup. sourceClaude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, Windsurf, Cline and 7 more agents (13 total). source
Underlying modelGPT-6 Astra (Astra itself shipped 3 September 2026, three and a half weeks before dots; dots is a new product on the existing model, not a new model) sourceNot a separate model. Mover runs inside whichever AI agent and model the user already has (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, etc.); it does not supply or swap the underlying model itself. source
Where memory livesNot spelled out as a dots-specific memory system in the launch post. "The more you work together, the more your dot learns your preferences." Whether it rides ChatGPT's general Memory system (Settings > Personalization > Memory, viewable/editable/deletable there) is inferred, not confirmed by OpenAI's dots copy. sourcePlain markdown files on the user's own computer. "100% plain markdown files", "0 notes uploaded by Mover", every file stays the user's, including if they leave. source
Always onYes. "They have their own cloud computer, learn from feedback over time, and can work towards your goals 24/7." sourceNo. Does not run 24/7 on its own; it has no computer or browser of its own, no phone app, and does no errands. It runs inside the AI agent session the user opens, plus a local dashboard and a daily routine of workflows (/morning, /plan-tomorrow, /log, /analyse-day, /review-week). source
Own computer / browserYes. Each dot works on its own cloud computer and browser, inspectable any time; can also be granted permission to use the user's own laptop directly. sourceNo. No computer or browser of its own. source
Integrations"Through our ecosystem of plugins, they can readily connect to over 4,000 apps" (the existing ChatGPT plugin/app ecosystem, not a new developer surface). No public dots-specific API or SDK found. sourceWorks inside the AI agents themselves rather than connecting to third-party consumer apps (no Gmail/Calendar/Shopify-style connector list); ships with pre-installed skills, agents and hooks inside the AI agent's own configuration. source
Trains on your data by default"We don't use content from ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspaces to improve our models by default. On personal ChatGPT plans, you can control whether dots' conversations and work are used to improve our models." The launch post gives no default setting for personal (Pro) plans. sourceNot applicable: nothing is uploaded to Mover's own servers to train on. "0 notes uploaded by Mover." source

Who should pick which?

Pick dots if…

Pick dots if you're already a ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium subscriber and want an agent that can independently research, draft, and prep work in the background, with its own cloud computer and browser, and you're comfortable that OpenAI hasn't published which markets are "eligible" yet.

Pick Mover if…

Pick Mover if what you actually need is for the coding agent you already use every day to stop forgetting your plan between sessions and stop quietly agreeing when you go off-script. It costs $49 once, not a Pro-tier subscription, and it's plain markdown files on your own computer, not a cloud VM.

Mover is the wrong choice if…

Mover is the wrong choice if what you actually want is dots' core feature: an agent with its own computer and browser that works on tasks 24 hours a day while you're not there. Mover has no computer or browser of its own, does not run when you're not in a session, and does no errands. If that always-on, acts-without-you capability is the whole point for you, dots (or Meta Muse, or Gemini Spark) is the honest answer, not Mover.

What do users say?

“OpenAI's mascot looks like the Grok bot. When big tech copies each other, it's called 'learning from the competition.' When small apps do it, it's called 'copycat.'”

@alexcooldev, OpenAI dots

“Can it control my machine though? My problem is that I don't have the luxury of connecting all of my work systems to outside systems. So I have to work from my desktop.”

@appealstoheaven, OpenAI dots

“I really hoped I would be impressed... Sadly Dots is pretty underwhelming. Everything they 'do' I already have ChatGPT doing.”

@MefreeNTR2098, OpenAI dots

“'Included in your Pro plan' - Pro 100 or Pro 200?”

@rayanabdulcader, OpenAI dots

“It shortens the gap between wanting to do something or an idea and execution on a very granular level.”

Ishaaq, Creative Director, Mover OS

Common questions

Do dots and Mover compete for the same job?

Only loosely. dots is built to act for you while you're away (research, drafts, background task execution on its own cloud computer). Mover is built to keep the AI agent you're actively driving honest about your own stated plan. You could reasonably use both: dots for background work, Mover inside your coding sessions.

Which one is cheaper?

Mover is a one-time $49 with a 30-day refund. dots itself has no separate price, but it only comes with ChatGPT Pro ($100 or $200 a month) or Business Premium, so the real cost of access to dots is that subscription, ongoing.

Does Mover run 24/7 like dots does?

No. This is the central honest difference: dots is explicitly built to work "towards your goals 24/7" on its own cloud computer. Mover has no computer of its own and only runs inside the AI agent session you open.

Can I use dots and Mover together?

There's no technical conflict; they operate in different places (ChatGPT's own surface versus Claude Code, Codex or Gemini CLI). Nothing about using one requires giving up the other.

Mover OS: $49 once, plain files on your own machine, inside the AI you already use.
